I was asked this question a few days ago. the question was rather specific. It was not to list my favorite books or those that I had enjoyed the most. Those lists would have been completely different but rather to name those books (that I have read) that have changed my view of the world or even the way I thought about the world.
I have listed ten. Each of these wondrous volumes have made me think extensively about the nature of life and or emotion and the human condition. Only one of these books would have cropped up in my top ten books or my favourites.
They are, (in no particular order).
"The King David Report by Stephan Heym",
"I Robot, by Issac Asimov",
"Behold the man by Michael Moorcock",
"Being and nothingness by JP Sartre",
"Candide by Voltaire",
"Don Quixote by Cervantes",
"Beowulf (traditional, along with all the sagas).
"Earth by David Brin".
"The letters of Malachi Malagrowther by Sir Walter Scott".
and finally (you will be glad to hear);
"Hyperion by Dan Simmons".
These are neither my favourite books nor my most beloved but rather (as the question entailed) those that Have changed my world outlook or the way that I think about things. All of the above have affected me deeply in some way or another changing my perceptions and vision of the globe that we live upon. There have been many worthy of mention, more than these few but all of those noted affected me deeply.
