Narrative stories

It seems I am growing lonely out here. A warrior on the edge of time. For me Narrative poetry is the most ancient form of the art. Whilst things have changed and a great deal of modern poetry is emotional and allusion filled, which I love. (I like seeking the meaning, a puzzle within a heartfelt tale) But my mind is often drawn back in time to "origins". The earliest tales were almost certainly poetry of a sort. probably recited to the beat of a hide covered drum in a smokey clearing in the world covering forest. Each beat of the drum an action in the life of those passed, crescendo, the tale of the hero, ancestor or forebear and each of their acts with it. Perhaps the killing of a (fabled) beast (Beowulf) or simply the life of a strong or smart person (Njal's Saga). Usually strong, if you ignore Charlemagne, Knut Svenson and Semund the white. I suspect we neglect these these tales in favor of an easier choice. This attitude is silly and a product of the modern world where if it does not work instantly then it will be forgotten. I welcome the accelerando but not at the cost of history and tradition.
